Even though MATTA Fair was over last weekend, most of the full-fledged airlines are still having promotions in conjunction with the travel exhibition. However, as a Malaysian, I am going to focus on the promotions given by our national airline, Malaysia Airlines (MAS).
While I am still very much used to Air Asia's dirt cheap prices, there is no doubt that sometimes, even MAS can up its game when comes to giving Air Asia a run for the money. While comparing with other full-fledged airlines, MAS' long-haul flights are not that cheap. Return tickets to Europe (Armsterdam, Frankfurt, London & Paris) are at RM 2,799, slightly higher than others like Qatar Airways, Emirates Airways, etc.
However, its regional flights are at a better price fare. Flight to Medan from Kuala Lumpur is only at RM 160 for two-way tickets while from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta, Yangon and Phuket is at RM 299 for return tickets. Meanwhiles, Siem Reap, Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh and Bali are just at RM 399 return flights. I find these places reasonably priced, especially if you are looking for a last minute holidays. Even Air Asia cannot compete with that.
Look it up yourself at MAS website and book yourself a well-deserved year end break with your family.

Anyways, while MAS' airfares to Europe are slightly more expensive than other airlines that serve the same route albeit via the Middle East, they still offer a good value for a direct non-stop flight. Flying with a Middle Eastern airlines would add at least 3 hours to the travel hours, not to mention about the hassle of having to disembark, go through security check, re-board, et al at the transit airport.
For Europe, you might be able to get a cheaper airfare with MAS if you say, fly into London and fly back out of Paris. If I recall correctly, I managed to reduce the fare to around RM2500 which, in my opinion, is good value even against Etihad's RM2300.
In any case, where are you flying out to next? :-)
Haha, actually I know about MAS' direct flights to all the European cities and should have included it as well but I wasn't sure about those Middle Eastern airlines' routes. When you put it that way, I guess the offers by MAS are value worthy.
